Homemade Cinnamon Roll Buns - The Basic Ingredients
These Home made Cinnamon Roll Buns are very delicious and they don't require any special ingredients that can't be found at any local grocery store. Some of the basica ingredients
used in the recieps on this site may include the following:
Milk - The preferred choice is whole milk or buttermilk but you can usually get away with what ever you have in the fridge whether you have 1%, 2%, skim, or organic milk... all will work just fine. For a dairy
free option almond milk will also be acceptable.
Granulated Sugar - Can be used in the yeast for the rising dough and in the icing toping and in the Rolls.
Brown Sugar - The darker the brown sugar the higher amount of molasses in the brown sugar which will add extra flavor to the Cinnamon Roll Buns.
Bread Flour - Will give the Cinnamon Roll Buns a soft and chewy texture. All purpose flour will also work very well with a slightly different texture than the bread flour bread.
You will also need Eggs, butter, salt, vanilla, cream cheeze and cinnamon
Homemade Cinnamon Roll Buns - The Yeast
All the ingredients going into the dough including the eggs, milk, butter should be at room temperature or slightly warm (not hot) to avoid killing the yeast. There is basically
two types of yeast that you can use in this recipe
Active Dry Yeast - This yeast is first added to warm water that has some sugar in it and allowed to sit for a short time waiting for bubbles to
rise up in the mixture before adding it to rest of the dough.
Instant Yeast - Also called fast or quick rising yeast which can be added to the dough without first proofing the yeast.
Homemade Cinnamon Roll Buns - Kneading The Dough
You can use either mix and kneed the dough by hand or save some work and do it in a dough mixer machine. The dough should feel soft and slightly sticy but not so sticky that
it sticks to the mixer. Adding in extra flour one table spoon at a time until you get it to where it is still a little sticky and soft... be carefull and take care not to add too much flour.
After kneading, the dough should still feel sticky because your fingers may be covered in the dough. Wash your hands and rinse and then with a dry finger press into the surface of the dough... if
your finger sticks to the dough keep kneading. If the dough bounces back and your finger is still clean of sticky dough then it is ready.
Homemade Cinnamon Roll Buns - The Toppings
It's true that while cream cheese frosting is a classic and probally the most popular choice to top off a Cinnamon Bun... here are some other options that could be considered.
Vanilla glaze - Made from powdered sugar, milk and Vanilla
Lemon glaze - Made with powdered sugar and lemon juice
Powdered sugar - A simple and classic finish.
Vanilla Frosting - Very good
Pumpkin spice glaze or topping - Perfect for the fall.
Homemade Cinnamon Roll Buns - Not Fluffy?
By far the most common reason cinnamon roll buns are not fluffy is because the dough wasn't given enough time to rise or the yeast was ineffective due to temperatures being too high or cold.
While rising, the dough should be soft and tacky... too much flour will cause the cinnamon rolls to be dense, dry and hard.
